thank you so much for this info! i'm a woman with long legs and i've been really struggling with the conventional deadlift. it has felt incredibly awkward. i can't get low enough at all (the only way i could is if i rise up on my toes, and of course i wouldn't lift like that) and my back is practically parallel to the floor. then i read about how the sumo could be better for me and it absolutely is. it affords so much more flexibility. your site and this page in particular has so much great info on it, thank you! i really look forward to DLing now. :)

It will come with time. Start with the bar higher than the floor - either in a rack on low pins or on plates/mat. Then gradually reduce height until bar is from floor.

KB swings are good but I tend to think of them as a hamstring exercise.
I would emphasise the importance of keeping conventional deadlifts in the programme as well.

i was just gonna FB you about sumo deads as i have got my wife and my coach training with deads, my wife favours sumo style and my coach she favours normal, you pretty much answered my questions on this post.

for additional work for the back you mentioned i guess KB swings are good as well? both of them do a lot of them.
