Hi folks,

A very happy 2011 to you all, and welcome to gubernatrix if you have recently joined us.

New DVDs in stock – Olympic weightlifting and kettlebells!

From next month I will be stocking top US weightlifting coach Glenn Pendlay’s fantastic new DVD on Olympic Weightlifting Techniques. This 2-DVD set looks to be perfect for home trainers or those who teach the olympic lifts to clients. I have used Glenn’s clean progressions in workshops and with clients already and can testify that they are very effective. A full review of the DVD will be posted soon.

I will also have more copies of my most popular Dan John DVD sellers: Perfecting Your Kettlebell Form and Olympic Lifting for Beginners. Regular readers of this blog will know what a huge fan I am of Dan so I won’t go on about it here. Suffice it to say I’ve had these DVDs for more than a year and I’m still mining them for insights.

Grand Prix Fitness Expo – the event of the season! 19-20 March

There’s a lot of excitement building around this event at Excel, London over 19th-20th March and I am really looking forward to being there. It features the UK stop for Giants Live, the World’s Strongest Man qualifying tour. All the top British strongman will be there, along with other famous names from WSM. It’s a fantastic opportunity to see WSM-level competition up close and cheer on Brits such as Terry Hollands and Laurence Shahlaei, who look in very competitive shape at the moment.

Strength Villain/Greyskull workshop – 25 April

Crossfit London and Crossfit Bath are both hosting Jonny Pain from Greyskull later in the year. You might remember Greyskull from their notorious and quite public de-affiliation from Crossfit about a year ago. Now they are bringing their methods to the UK. I understand that places are quite limited for these events, so if you are interested, get booked up early.

Glenn Pendlay UK seminar – 26-27 March

US weightlifting coach Glenn Pendlay is coming to the UK this spring. He is delivering a two-day workshop at the University of Edinburgh’s Centre for Sport & Exercise on 26-27 March 2011. As mentioned above, I’ve just received copies of Glenn’s DVD Olympic Weightlifting Techniques which will soon be available on gubernatrix.co.uk. Glenn has an excellent approach to ‘training the trainers’ and this looks to be a fantastic opportunity to spend two days with the man and gain some valuable learning.

World of Gubes

I worked out recently that I have done 9 competitions in the last 15 months. No wonder I was knackered by the end of the year! I’ve had a bit of a break post-Christmas and am now easing back into training, focussing on olympic weightlifting but throwing more kettlebell/bodyweight workouts in as well.

Bye for now,

Gubernatrix
